Close-up of Benedikt Schnürr

During a late afternoon at the end of April 2026, I sat down with Benedikt Schnürr to interview him about his work as a pioneering wine producer in Gundersheim in the region of Rheinhessen in Germany.

It became a deeper conversation about his personal approach to his role, his feelings about making wine, and the heritage he carries with him.

In addition, we talked about the wine industry at the moment and what we can expect from it in the years to come. In particular with regard to the wines of the future, the so-called PiWi varieties, which the Schnürr family has specialized in, and how more traditional producers might take advantage of them to innovate.

We also touched upon the subject of Generation Z, which the wine industry is trying to figure out how to handle in terms of new low or no-alcohol products. Since Benedikt is both a wine producer and part of this generation, it's very interesting to hear his take on how he thinks its drinking habits will develop.

All this, and more, in a 47 minute video based interview. Watch below, and enjoy!
