The Schnürr vineyard

From experimental pruning of traditional grape varieties to making premium wines of new varieties with constant innovation as the ever present driver.

This is daily life in the Schnürr vineyard in Gundersheim in Rheinhessen, Germany, and it's something the family behind it has specialized in from day one.

With a dedicated focus on the socalled PiWi-varieties, which means fungus resistant grapes, Schnürr is one of the leading pioneers in creating the wines of the future, and when you see the vineyard you understand why.

I visited Benedikt Schnürr, the eldest son of the family, on a beautiful spring day in April 2026, and he took me on a tour through the entire vineyard on his quad-bike.

It gave me real insight in their unique approach to winemaking, and in this reportage I'm sharing my experience with you. Enjoy!
