The landscape of the wine industry
Interview with sommelier André Dørlit about the potential for pioneers in the wine industry right now.
Driven by two great trends, the world of wine offers plenty of opportunities for any pioneer who would like to discover new ways of both growing and distributing wine.
In this interview with sommelier André Dørlit, we talk about both of them and how they might affect the pioneers.
One of the trends is climate change, which we can categorize as a nature driven trend. It's outside of our control, but we can react to it in innovative ways, which can act as drivers for new market niches.
The other trend is the wellness trend that has hit the wine market and made us change our drinking habits. For instance, by drinking less, but better wine. A challenge for the so called middle market, but an opportunity for small producers of quality wine you can actually afford.
These two trends seem to be connected by sustainability, transparency, and authenticity. Values that nearly all consumers are looking for in the wine market today.
In addition, we have a young Generation Z, which is approaching the life style of enjoying wine in a fundamentally different way than older generations. For example by requesting low and nonalcoholic wines to meet their health oriented goals as wells as having a different social context of enjoying wine.
To top it all, we also talk about the new legislative framework at EU level, which gives any pioneer out there ample opportunity for carving out a disruptive niche in the years to come.
In short, a very informative interview done in a relaxing atmosphere.
